
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18 2000) is an American performer and actress who worked for over 40 years. London, a torch singer well-known for her smooth, mellow vocals and her languid contralto voice she recorded over thirty albums of standards and jazz between 1955 and 1969. Her recording of "Cry Me a River" the song she released on her debut album was accepted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. In addition to receiving a musical notice, London was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her portrayal of nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35 year acting career began in the film industry in 1944. It featured roles as the female lead in a variety of westerns. In the mid-50s she signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional career. The final album of her studio was released in the year 1969. She continued to be a hit as the female character of Dixie McCall on the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) and co-starred alongside Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
